Allan Mosiro (Kenya) – Developer of the Week

Kenya has witnessed a serious transition in the past 10 years – financially, culturally, politically and most importantly technologically. From establishing a successful & functional democracy; to being named the third most sought after tourist destination in Africa; to developing the most advanced financial apps, Kenya has definitely come a long way. Riding high on this evolution wave is Allan Mosiro, an upcoming App Developer & Mobile enthusiast.Allan Mosiro

Mosiro began his journey around two years back by developing basic visual apps and websites. It was when he was accidentally introduced to mobile programming by a friend that captured his interest immensely & provoked him to pursue Developing Apps. He went on to take up an advanced course at Emobilis on Mobile App Development that helped him learn, understand and use new platforms like j2me, Android and Windows. He soon established his own business venture, Technikol You, and began churning out mobile apps and websites. As of today, Mosiro is a publisher at the Ovi Store, Opera and Mobango; and has developed many apps like Cool Puzzle, Bubble Squash and Shark Invasion.

Mosiro’s biggest challenge so far has been monetizing his apps. After a year of working with various ad networks he stumbled upon Vserv. Mosiro states, “Working with Vserv.mobi has been the best choice so far as the revenues I have earned are a 100x better than what I witnessed with other ad networks! Monetizing my apps & games with the AppWrapper has been a wise decision & I look forward to receiving more benefits from this collaboration.”

Nisqo Technologies (Tanzania)- Developer of The Week

Vserv-Nisquo“A kid in Africa with a cell phone has access to more intelligence than the President of United States did 15 years ago” said MIT futurist Ray Kurzweil in a recent article in the Huffington Post. Six out of the world’s 10 fastest growing economies are in Africa and Mobile is playing a big role in driving these economies. Africa is the second biggest mobile market in terms of subscriber base with 50% of internet connections exclusively on mobile and 50% of the region’s population below 20 years of age. So it is not surprising when you see students, fresh out of college, wanting to be pioneers in this mobile revolution.

Vserv-Nisile

It’s often said why work for someone when you can work for yourself, but at times people have trouble taking the plunge. Need some inspiration? Meet Tanzania based Nisile Kaswaga. He initially thought he would work for someone and applied for several jobs, but during this entire process of applying he was convinced he was not getting enough mileage for his time working for someone else. In March 2012, Nokia conducted an 8 week training program for 30 chosen app developers in Tanzania, and Nisile was one of them. His latent passion for mobile app development had come to the fore during this training and he took the entrepreneurial leap founding Nisqo Technologies Co. Ltd. He was constantly driven by the success of students from Ugandan Markerere University who had made millions developing mobile applications and the belief that Mobile was the medium which would break barriers adding significant value to the lives of people around him.

In less than a year Nisile has taken rapid strides and become a leading player in the mobile apps space. His first app ‘Love Guru’ has enjoyed tremendous success globally. We have always been committed to partner with young dynamic talent in the mobile space & are delighted to collaborate with Nisile in his app monetization journey. Nisile adds “Vserv’s unique AppWrapper technology is the best monetization tool out there – because it is very simple, and yet helped increase our revenues multifold, saving us tremendous time in our overall coding efforts. We look forward to a fruitful and long association with Vserv for all future projects.”

Inspired by Steve Jobs, Nisile has ambitious plans for Nisqo. Having already made a mark on the Nokia Ovi store, Nisile plans to start developing mobile apps on other platforms like Symbian, Android, Blackberry and Windows in the coming year. Nisile terms ‘entrepreneurship’ as the best form of employment and his advice to fellow peers is to get started immediately if they have an idea.

We are confident that Nisile will very soon be a force to reckon with in mobile app development making both Tanzania and Africa proud. We wish him lots of success in all his endeavours.

Jollybox (Czech Republic)- Developer of The Week

Jollybox-VservOld school thinkers believe that one should work their way up in a job, gain experience and then when one is completely seasoned, venture into starting a business. If every company followed this approach, Facebook & Google would not have existed. Times have definitely changed, the trend is to get started as soon as you have an idea, the earlier the better. Back in 2007, Petr Medek, a student based in Czech Republic had the same thought. He was working on an academic project, a dictionary app, and soon realized that it was more than just a student project. While building this app he was consumed by the process of creating something new and decided that this is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Petr took the entrepreneurial plunge and founded Jollybox in 2007 with a focus on developing software for feature phones on the J2ME platform. Continue reading

Mango Technologies (India)- Developer of The Week

India’s renowned IIM’s are considered at par with ivy league business schools, like Harvard, in grooming the business leaders of tomorrow. Traditionally, B-school grads aspire for jobs with investment banks, consulting firms and FMCG majors, but increasingly they are being encouraged to start their “entrepreneurial journey” while in school. A product of this new age thinking, is Mango Technologies, a company incubated at NSRCEL – Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.Mango Technologies has been making successful and profitable mobile applications since 2006. The team derives its inspiration from everything that encourages human interaction – from traditional forms of communication like posting letters to new mediums like social media.Developers usually choose & stick to platforms they prefer to develop on. However, given the diverse nature of the mobile ecosystem, users are experiencing mobile apps on a variety of platforms. The team at Mango Technologies recognized this, and decided to develop mobile apps across platforms to maximize the reach of their products. They developed apps on just about every platform including –  Android, iOS, Windows, Blackberry, Bada & J2ME. Continue reading

alex-michael-vservIn today’s hyper connected world, we sometimes forget how different things were just a decade ago. It was not a “Mobile First” world. Yet a startup decided to dream big and decided to go Mobile. Thus, in 2002, Sprite Interactive Limited was started, their first apps were mobile pet apps which they built on J2ME and went live with Jamba and later were also available on Vodafone.
